There's another option here, which is that of "information which is used to reasonably understand or comprehend" -- for example, the military and the CIA speak of "intelligence" as information that they need, that they don't want other people to know that they need.

(The name of Valerie Plame was 'intelligence', and when it leaked she was put into danger.)
