Talk:lintel

Being unsure of Etymology 1. anyone's help would be appreciated. Previously it stood as:

Latin limitari, which relates to a boundary

And I have come accross this etymology in a few but not all dictionaries. However my Encarta specifically warns that the above etymology is a common mistake. But to go from the Latin "limit-" to "lintel" seems a far jump. It has also been suggested that Lintel is derived from Olde French, but I could not find more info.

So if you can improve the etymology, that would be great. Thanks. Syrius 18:06, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
