Ice lolly[edit]

Normally on a stick. Also, in UK English, made of frozen juice to form an iced lolly.

It's ice lolly, not "iced lolly". Equinox 21:26, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

etymology[edit]

likely we will never know the true etymology of lollipop, but it's at least worth considering that lolly might be older, and therefore not a contraction of lollipop. This would help explain why it has other senses unrelated to candy.

the same might be true of the loblolly connection, .... rather than saying that "lolly" is short for loblolly, maybe it was just lolly all along? But that one is going to be even harder to piece out, .... I'd say impossible. Soap 01:12, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
