Null is usually that which has no value (nothingness) or no effect. It originates from the Latin word nullus, meaning not any. "Null" is the word for zero in German and Norwegian. (Similar to "nul" in Dutch and Danish, "noll" in Swedish and "nulo" in Esperanto.)

Missing definition Under English, Verb, "2. To form nulls, or into nulls, as in a lathe." Under Noun, there is no definition of "nulls" or singular "null" as used in this sentence - which is obviously not speaking of the zero concept.
