If its pacifism and pacificism, and they are something different, shouldn't it be pacifist and pacificist then too? Mutante 22:22, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. But I'll work with this. It's sometimes the case that -ist and -ism dont pair fully. For example, we now have a sense at pacifist that we may not have had in 2009 ... a style of video gameplay in which the player character either cannot or will not harm any enemies. But there is no corresponding sense at pacifism such as "preferring to play video games in which the player character is nonviolent", because people just dont call it that. So, in this case, I will try to see if the relatively obscure words pacificist and pacificism form a natural pair or not. It could be that pacificist had another sense, perhaps meaning someone with a pacific temperament, but there would be no corresponding use of pacificism. Soap 19:37, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
