Pronunciation[edit]

I think it is sometimes pronounced with a ʒ ("zh") sound, like "Parma" + Jean (French pronunciation). Probably it's an approximation of the "gia" in Italian "Parmigiano." But I think usually the ʒ pronunciation is used in reference to dishes like veal parmesan or eggplant parmesan (melanzane alla parmigiana), rather than to the whole or grated cheese itself. 71.66.97.228 18:30, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've heard it for both (indeed, know no other pronunciation).—msh210 (talk) 18:33, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
When it's used attributively following its noun (like in eggplant parmesan), I think it's often /pɑɹ.məˈʒɑn/ rather than /ˈpɑɹ.məˌʒɑn/.—msh210 (talk) 18:35, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Money"[edit]

I think this definition is a protologism. Would anyone use parmesan to mean money outside of hip hop music? Its used in rap as a play on words of cheddar but I seriously doubt anyone would use it like that in a casual conversation. Blitz-Welle (talk) 08:56, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome to RFV it, but even if it is only used in hip hop music, that is still sufficient for it to have an entry.--Prosfilaes (talk) 04:54, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
