RFD discussion: Latin prefix[edit]
The following information has failed Wiktionary's deletion process.
It should not be re-entered without careful consideration.
Isn't this just a preposition that forms many compound words? I.e., shouldn't the page title just be prae? — Raifʻhār Doremítzwr ~ (U · T · C) ~ 09:48, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

- Delete. For Latin, we are treating these kinds of prepended (but potentially independent) elements as prepositions, rather than as prefixes, whenever they also exist as words in their own right. One reason for this is that we'd have much needless duplication of content. It's akin to the way we don't have -out as a suffix in English, even though we have compounds like (deprecated template usage) lockout, (deprecated template usage) walkout, and (deprecated template usage) shoutout. However, we do have (deprecated template usage) out-, but that's because it carries meaning(s) (e.g. "surpassing, exceeding") not typically present in the simple word (deprecated template usage) out. When this happens in Latin, we should have an entry for such a prefix, but such instances are much rarer in Latin than in English. --EncycloPetey 02:38, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
