Sandpit[edit]

Maybe meaning 1 of sandbox is the US form of GB's sandpit. I grew up in England; when I first saw 'sandbox' i did not relate the word to the children's play pit, I thought of a storage box at a construction site.

The definition seems a little odd, referring specifically to a box; I believe most people see it as meaning the sand more than the box. How about this: "A large box containg sand, in which children can play."

Perhaps meaning 2 derives from meaning 1, in that the sandbox is a place where you can play and not affect the "real world". If so, should it be mentioned?
