Creating my first article[edit]

...so please point out whatever I've done wrong! No offence will be taken.

In particular I'm not sure whether the links to the Watt and Newcomen engines are allowed... is this getting too much like an encyclopedia rather than a dictionary?

And I want to set up a citations page and am not entirely sure how. Andrewa (talk) 21:19, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See http://www.ebooksread.com/authors-eng/victoria-and-albert-museum/catalogue-of-the-mechanical-engineering-span-classsearchtermspan-classse-hci/page-3-catalogue-of-the-mechanical-engineering-span-classsearchtermspan-classse-hci.shtml for an attestation of the second usage, contrasting the Watt and Newcomen engines, which I'd like to cite. (Unfortunately there's a line break between simple and engine in the online text, so a search on simple engine doesn't work.) Andrewa (talk) 22:01, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And Wiktionary:Entry layout explained#Headings after the definitions suggests Antonyms as one, and it's obviously applicable here. Wiktionary:Entry layout explained#Further semantic relations just says it's similar to Synonyms... working on it, any help appreciated. Andrewa (talk) 21:43, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IMO the second sentence in the second definition ("Use of such…") is superfluous for a dictionary definition: link to the appropriate WP article for more info instead. For info on setting up a citations page, see [[WT:Citations]]. Regarding antonyms, do you mean coordinate terms, perhaps? Feel free to askme further questions on my user talk page, and welcome to Wiktionary.—msh210 (talk) 22:12, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Re the Use of such sentence, yes, that's exactly what I was wondering. But is there any way to link specifically from the second definition, rather than from the whole article? I've put a {{Wikipedia}} link there, but it would be nice to be more specific.
Thanks also for the links re antonyms and citations. Andrewa (talk) 22:45, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You can link to Wikipedia using ====External links==== and * {{pedia}} instead of the box {{wikipedia}}. If you do so, you can specify the sense using {{sense}}, as * {{sense|engine without a separate condenser}} {{pedia|Simple engine}}. {{sense}} is also good for synonyms (and antonyms and coordinate terms, etc.), related terms, derived terms, usage notes, and even, sometimes, pronunciations.—msh210 (talk) 22:52, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
