In healthcare, systemness may refer to the best way for a healthcare system to fulfill the mission of delivering exceptional results for their patients every time, every day, at every interaction.

In an uncertain economy with increased competition between healthcare providers causing demand for greater transparency about the quality and cost of care, healthcare reform will require hospitals to do things differently. Hospitals within a healthcare system can leverage their experience, knowledge, strength and reputation to achieve greater success than when they operate as independent hospitals and businesses. That is systemness.
