I've occasionally seen this word used instead of (deprecated template usage) tick for a microprocessor cycle. The first time I saw it was in a scrolltext in ESI's Shock megademo (1992), but it can be found on the Web in a few places. It is proving difficult to find durably archived evidence, though.
