Is the term tickey now considered obsolete? It was still in widespread use in the early 1990s and applied to the small silver-coloured 5c coin.

I left South Africa in 1978 aged 30. The tickey (3d / 2.5c) coin was in use until 1965 when it was replaced by a copper 2c coin. I did not hear the term being used much after that apart from a "tickey-box" or a call box. (Prior to about 1960, phone boxes only took 3d coins). The term "long tickey" was used to describe a piece of wire that could be used (illegally) to bypass the coin registration mechanism of a phone box. --Martinvl 14:28, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
