Think this is not correct. The German word means as much as "rude, outrageous, improper, indecent, impertinent, disgraceful, scandalous, shameful, bad mannered, unfeeling, indelicate".

Feel free to add more translations. But you are not right that unheard-of is an incorrect translation. For example, eine unerhörte Leistung ("achievement") or eine unerhörte Anstrengung ("effort") does not have the negative connotation of the translations given by you . --Zeitlupe 14:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The truth is that "unerhört" did originally mean "unknown, not heard of". See Deutsches Wörterbuch. This sense is obsolete, however, and I've labelled it thus. 84.57.154.1 21:16, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
