- There is no octopii. The plural is octopi. If I understood your message aright, you repudiate the application of Latin plural forms to borrowings from Latin into English? There are words whose plural forms are hardly imaginable without adhæring to the corresponding Latin declension such as appendix (pl. appendices), cervix (pl. corvices) and many others and which do not look authentic if deprived of their primordial plural forms.
