Talk:wheel war

There are lots of google groups hits for "open wheel war" which I think should be hyphenated "open-wheel war" and refers to a feud between the Indy Racing League and Championship Auto Racing Teams. There is obviously the wide-spread usage on Wikipedia, but can anyone find any evidence of the term being used before then? Conrad.Irwin 14:35, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

I did a lot of searching trying to fix the Wikipedia article on the term, and I was not able to find any significant uses of the term "wheel war", in print or usenet or even on web pages - other than in direct regard to Wikipedia or the other Wikimedia projects.

The term "wheel" in the context of Unix has many uses in books about Unix, hundreds of books - so that word could be added as a unix term. I used the search term +wheel +unix and many pages came up. But "wheel war" does not bring any results at all in books or journals other than random juxtapositions of the two words that do not refer to the computing usage. Adding the qualifiers "unix" or "computer" or "computing" resulted in zero hits on Google Books and Scholar. I found only one reference in the Jargon File that shows an early use:

other wikis

i found this, from a Dungeons & Dragons wiki. There may be more. WMF wikis are excluded, but so far as I know we have no such rule applying to wikis outside our purview. I dont know if it's ever come up for debate before whether such a site is considered durably archived or not, however. —Soap— 17:57, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
