Technically, a Young Gun is a person (usually young) who is trying to prove his/herself, especially when there is an already established hierarchy. The term supposedly originates back during the "wild west" days when a young man would prove his merit by taking on a more experienced gunfighter. (unable to confirm/provide historical reference). In a more modern example it would be a young employee attempting to move up the ranks by showing administration that they are qualified for a higher position in their company. Or in a criminal organization, a gang member trying to make a name for themselves.
