Usage

This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections, and on talk pages, to cite editions of Monier Monier-Williams's A Sanskrit–English Dictionary. It can be used to create a link to the following online versions of the Dictionary:

• 1st edition, 1872 at the Internet Archive.
• new edition, 1899 provided by the University of Cologne (the default).

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

1st edition, 1872

• |year= – mandatory: if citing from the 1st edition (1872) of the work, specify |year=1872.
• |entry= – mandatory: the entry in the work cited, either in Devanagari script or in the Latin alphabet.
• |trans-entry= – if the entry is in Devanagari script, this parameter may be used to provide a transliteration in the Latin alphabet.
• |page= or |pages= – mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) of the work cited. When citing a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
  • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the entry begins).

You must specify this information to have the template create an automatic link to an online version of the work.

• |column= or |columns= – the column number(s) of the work cited. When citing a range of column numbers, separate the first and last numbers of the range with an en dash.
• |passage= – a passage quoted from the work.

New edition, 1899

• |1=, |2=, |3=, |4=, |5= – use these parameters to specify up to five different page numbers. You may append a column number after a page number, like this: |1=60/2 (page 60, column 2). Alternatively, you may use the |column= or |columns= parameters to specify the column number(s).
• |head=, |head2=, |head3=, |head4=, |head5= – use these parameters to specify the names of up to five different entries in the work.
