Derived terms[edit]

This template is meant to be used when creating new entries in the same way as other "lang-new-pos" -templates. Compared to others there are some "guiding words" in Finnish where other templates use blancs. This serves a) to make focusing the cursor easier, especially to those who are using a touchpad or pointing stick b) as a reminder on what is supposed to be entered in that specific space. The idea is to doubleclick the guiding word and replace it with new text.

Notes[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

  • replace tavutus with hyphenated text using "|" as separator between syllables
  • replace foneettinenteksti with phonetic text written in IPA-characters

Adjective[edit]

  • replace yhteinenrunko with the string of letters that is common for comparative and superlative forms
  • depending on word, replace letter X with the vowel that is used to connect the common part to the comparative ending -mpi (ex. "e" in tasapuolis|empi|in or "ä" in pätev|ämpi|in), or delete when not needed (ex. huono|mpi|in)
  • if the adjective is not comparable, replace everything after fi-adj with "|-"
  • replace englanninsana with the English translation of the Finnish word
  • replace selitysenglanniksi with whatever English gloss is deemed useful

Declension[edit]

  • replace taivutusluokka with the name of the declension class, e.g. "nainen", "koira" etc.
  • replace letter A with "a" in words with back-vowel harmony and "ä" in words with front-vowel harmony
