Can this be renamed and turned into something useful? "Gay slang" seems a bit informal, but "homosexual slang" sounds silly, or POV. Mglovesfun (talk) 14:58, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

moving to RFDO. Mglovesfun (talk) 14:03, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can this be useful as a context label? If so, do we rename it, or what? Mglovesfun (talk) 14:04, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note the existence of the context template {{Polari}}.—msh210 16:20, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That seems to refer to the second sense of Polari, not the first. I say seems, I'm not sure. Mglovesfun (talk) 16:45, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, this should be elsewhere, but whatever. {Polari} is in only eight entries. It was added to naff in diff, and definition at the time makes it clear that the "homosexual slang" of Polari was meant; to blag in diff, ditto; to balonie ditto; to zhoosh in diff, ambiguous, but by the same editor on the same day as naff, so I think that that's fine; to polari in diff, ditto; to bevvy in diff, completely ambiguous; to tszuj because it was added to zhoosh, so I think that's fine; and to riah by the same editor and at roughly the same time as to tszuj, so I think that's fine, too. So I thing we should remove the tag from bevvy, ask the anonip who added it for clarification, and change the display text of {Polari} to "British homosexual cant". This is all assuming that our entry [[Polari]] is correct and the two senses are distinct; I'm beginning to suspect it's not and they're not, but shuld be merged into one. Thoughts?—msh210 16:53, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Or, perhaps better, change all the uses of {Polari} to {{UK|_|gay slang}} (except bevvy which remove as described above).—msh210 17:01, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with delete of this, but I am going to add Template:gay culture which should be appropriate for all such entries. There may end up being subcategories in there, but if a word is in "gay culture" and "slang", then that should be all that is required for most of the words above (although I don't understand most of them). Feel free to delete Template:gay culture if I have violated some rule. Facts707 00:24, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I find myself disagreeing with the original logic that made me nominate this template; we also have things like {{poker slang}} (which I myself use) and {{military slang}}. I think this should be kept but perhaps redirected to {{LGBT}}; the debate below on Category:Gay slang by language should determine what happens, as there are a few people that want to merge Gay slang into LGBT slang. The templates will of course follow suit. --Mglovesfun (talk) 11:43, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that "Category:fr:LGBT" and "Category:French LGBT slang" would be different things. One of them is a list of terms semantically involving LGBT, and other is a list of terms whose usage is typically restricted to LGBT people; hetty meaning heterosexual and typically used by LGBT people makes it member of the English version of only one of the two categories mentioned by me. --Daniel 05:20, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kept, no consensus. Mglovesfun (talk) 19:55, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
