Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Albanian Tepelenë, which is probably ultimately from Ottoman Turkish تپه دلن (Tepedelen), the name of the city during Ottoman era. Alternatively from Albanian Tepe e Lenes or Illyrian *Antibylyne.

  1. A city in southern Albania, located on a plateau on the left bank of the river Vjosa about three kilometres downstream from its confluence with the river Drino; it is the seat of its eponymous municipality and the former seat of its now defunct eponymous district.
