toleratie

As a Dutch speaker, do you have an idea whether RFD#toleratie is a common misspelling, a dated form or an obsolete form? There is some discussion in RFD that could benefit from input of a native speaker.

I replied but I don't think it has been noticed. Basically, it can be a misspelling, but there is no reason it has to be because it's also a valid word in its own right. At least morphologically it is, I don't know if it would meet CFI as a separate word. But a Dutch speaker would understand it even if they had never heard of it, just like an English speaker would probably make good sense of "toleration". So I think the discussion about misspellings is a bit premature, we have no way of knowing if it is.

Thanks; I have noticed your response. Maybe I should not have responded to the frequency ratio discussion any more, to increase focus of the discussion. I think the frequency ratio picture is very clear, and am disappointed though not surprised any more by some of the responses.

I updated -atie to make the relationship more clear. The derivation of nouns by replacing -eren of a verb with -atie is a productive process. So creating toleratie from tolereren is completely regular. It is comparable with the conflict between English in- and un-, usually or the other dominates for a certain word, but you still find the other variety occasionally. See unvisible for example. :)

Or even unpossible.  :)
