Yog's law is a law for writers, first expressed by James D. Macdonald as: "Money flows toward the writer." A frequently cited corollary is: "The only place an author should sign a check is on the back, when they endorse it."

The law popularizes the belief that authors should not have to pay people to publish their book; the authors themselves should be paid to write the book, thus helping unwary novice writers avoid numerous scams that prey on those trying to find publication.
