User:Richardb/Project - Using Category to list Neologisms

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Purpose[edit]

Trying to reduce the number of lists in Wiktionary which need serious maintenance, meaning they will often, probably always be out of date.

Aim[edit]

To establish using categories as the way to group / list neologisms. It is simple for any person to then add a word to the "list" of Neologisms. And also simple for remove that classificxation once they feel the word is fully established.

How[edit]

  • Use category code [[category:neologism]]
  • Use code {{neo}} and Template:neo as quick way of putting the [[category:neologism]] code into a word.
  • Use category:neologism as the way of listing the neologisms.

Could also use sub-categories such as "neologism-unstable", linked into the "neologism" category.

Consensus needed[edit]

Is this the way to go? Do we have a consensus on that? Please feel free to add your comments/vote here.

Sounds like a good idea to me. flashcrowd is a good example. It seems like words like flashcrowd needs to be labeled as something within the definition itself (same way we would with jargon). The term neologism seems too technical to be part of def itself. --Eean 19:13, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
