In the mean, I am trying to get my voice recognition-software running again for everyones benefit, so thank you all in advance for your patience, forbearance and understanding!! :)

Please do not link words within quotations, no matter how obscure. Our policy is not to link words within example quotations, as this distracts from their primary purpose of demonstrating how the current word is used. --EncycloPetey 05:18, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shortening the signature would be very nice, I get tired of reading that sentence over and over again while editing (because it's then not so obvious that it is a signature). You can always put a more detailed note about RSI/Skype/MSN once at the top of this page instead of multiple times on every page you edit; which has the other advantage that if you change your details, or get a new VoIP solution, you only have to update one place. (See also Wiktionary:Signatures#Length). Thanks. Conrad.Irwin 07:52, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikijargon

We have a lot of it. Feel free to ask anytime. WT:GL has Wiktionary jargon. Most of it doesn't meet WT:CFI. We feel we can't exempt ourselves from the rules that apply to everyone else, (unlike many legislative bodies).

Appendix:Glossary is supposed to have the stuff that non-contributing users need to know to get full benefit of en.wikt. Of course contributors should know much of it.

Please let us know about any additional keyboard shortcuts that might help. I, for one, wouldn't mind having a few more.

Your technical background is certainly welcome. Any ideas you have for fast and legal (Copyright is in some ways a worse problem for us than for WP.) ways to expand our content in technical (or any) areas is appreciated. If you can give others hints about what generic changes might be warranted in a class of entries you have expertise about, it might be possible to set others to working a cleanup list under some guidelines. You can never tell what kind of thing someone might find interesting for a while. DCDuring TALK 18:06, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, just wanted to make sure you're following this

I assume you are aware of the discussion going on at the Beer parlour about you? No offense or anything, but it is pretty hard to understand your writing.  :| I can sympathize 'cause I know someone with RSI, but still... (How do you manage to write in entries? Writing style

There are several things I have wondered about your writing style. Feel free to leave my questions unanswered.

  1. What benefit does it bring you to capitalize things instead of separating words by a space?
  2. I cannot personally imagine what your RSI condition is like; I know personally no one with that condition. [TRY EMPATHY] I imagine there is some typing cost per letter, as it were. Then, are spaces more expensive than non-spaces to type?
  3. I would estimate that writing in normal English would double (multiply by two) the writing costs for you. Is that correct?ITS PRETIMUCH AN EXPONENTIAL REL-SHP~ATLET CANT OVERTAKE TORTOIS-FALACY Automated translation: "It's pretty much an exponential relationship, similar to the "can't overtake a tortoise[for me=end of the block-fallacy'"
  4. If the third is correct, could not the increase in writing costs be compensated by writing shorter sentences?ICAN RUN ABLOK MOSTDAYS[c functional reserve be4 its rfDEL] NOT A MILE. "I can run a block most days (see functional reserve before it's RFD'd) not a mile"

Your opinion is objectively wrong. English takes a large influence from German and Latin too. 78.105.169.66 23:00, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So I for one would very much appreciate if you (a) either write in plain English in spite of the additional cost for you, HUMANITIES-REASONIN:INTHE END IWANA GETMYWAY,RESONABL ORNOT[SCIENS PL MAKE URWAY2WT.. or (b) at least stop using capitalized letters and start using spaces. There are still a lot of tricks to make the writing shorter, tricks that you are already using, like writing "yr" instead of "your", "u" instead of "you", "lite" instead of "light", etc. "Humanities - reasoning: In the end I want to get my way, reasonable or not (science please make your way to wiktionary..)"

Assistive Technology

Hello, I thought you might be interested in the availability of assistive technology to users with typing difficulties. I have found a completely free online tool that can easily integrate into Wikipedia and any other website you wish to use it on. It works by dynamically predicting words based on likely continuing words and sentence confines. For example, typing: 'Wik' gives a suggestion of 'Wikipedia', which can be entered by pressing ctrl + the suggestion number (it'll make more sense when you check it out), saving many keystrokes. The website seems to have support for Mandarin and other languages as well.

The website is: http://lipik.in/ and there instructions on how to add it as a universal browser tool here: http://lipik.in/lipik-include.html.

You should take a look :).

Please go ahead and write to WMF that we are "discriminating you", if that's what you are really convinced of. I am looking forward to seeing what actions taken by Wiktionary editors you considered discriminatory. --Dan Polansky 08:05, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, he shouldn't be. Your comments at RFD are regularly rude. Personally, I find them difficult to understand and easy to ignore, so they don't really bother me; but if Visviva wants to point out their inappropriateness, more power to him. —RuakhTALK 17:20, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He rides around on my RSI -- it takes a rude bug indeed to not see that this is totally improper. PS: RFD is a destruction place of people's (me only once, that's not the point!) hard work (oh yes, good and helpful entries get deleted there!) mostly in ignorance and silliness by two people, admins, in tandem, talk again about what is rude and upsetting. PPS: Thanks you all for the record button, very considerate, NOT! more power to is not in Wiktionary, great for non-natives :( (but let me guess, DCDuring would say put it under power - for the record, I'm not lazy but this kind of user hostility is unacceptable. -史凡

I'm almost tempted to agree but honestly, can you all forget what's past and instead try to work on the future? Chiding people for what they have done isn't likely to make anything better if you don't offer some positive suggestions for the future. It saddens me when all that people do is break each other down with harsh words instead of building them up and trying to help them be better. :( L☺g☺maniac chat? 14:00, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Politeness is a two-way process; mayhaps if we stop calling you rude, and you stop calling us rude we could all get along. As neither party seem willing to acknowledge the (to some extent) valid complaints from the other, this will just deteriorate further. There's no point in criticising those who won't take criticism, so let's all go and edit the dictionary. Conrad.Irwin 23:40, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sven, in Beer Parlour, you have said that calling disabled people names has to stop here[4]. Can you provide hyperlinks to edits in Wiktionary in which other people are calling you names? Otherwise, I don't know what you are speaking of, while I can provide hyperlinks to a plenty of instances where you are calling other people names and are being abusive.
You seem to think that you can get away at Wiktionary with what Wikipedia admins don't tolerate. Your Wikipedia users have been blocked in Wikipedia long time ago, with the exception of the latest one:

Pint=

Hiya. Great work on adding all those Mandarin entries. One thing though. Take a look at Category:Mandarin verbs. See how all those verbs you added are stuck up the top and are not in alphabetical order? This is because you didn't fill in the pint= field. In the future could you please do this. It saves a lot of work for us having to do it for you. See How to Create a Basic Chinese Entry for more information. Cheers, Tooironic 07:39, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

史凡 has been blocked from editing. See Wiktionary:Beer_parlour#Can_y.27all_reconcile_this_please.3F for more information, where I struggled to contest this based on the impressions from mine interaction with this user. The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 08:10, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
