τριαντάφυλλου[edit]

See here: νέκταρ τριαντάφυλλου, μπουκιές τριαντάφυλλου, η καταγωγή του τριαντάφυλλου. Τριανταφύλλου is a family name. --flyax 20:17, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To what are the few Τριαντάφυλλουs (with cap) attributable? Proper names derived from the actual word? Misspellings? Something else?
And likewise, the four deviant plural forms (τριανταφύλλων) I found? --JorisvS 20:54, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Τριαντάφυλλου is the genitive of the male given name Τριαντάφυλλος. The deviant forms (τριανταφύλλων) you found are easy to explain (and difficult to understand for a non-native speaker), as an archaistic influence of Katharevousa. The official grammar textbook used in Greek schools explicitly mentions the word τριαντάφυλλο among other nouns whose declension follows the paradigm of "το σίδερο, του σίδερου". --flyax 21:55, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, that does clear it up. --JorisvS 11:22, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
