Transliteration[edit]

Kannada transliteration should be followed using the guide at Wiktionary:Kannada transliteration. Scientific transliteration is preferred.

Creating Kannada entries[edit]

Entry name[edit]

The name of the entry is that of the word or phrase that you are defining.

Titles of Kananda entries should always be in Kannada script, not a transliteration (that is, a romanization).

The basics[edit]

  1. Language header - The start of any Kannada entry needs to start off with a header that explains that the entry is a Kannada entry. The header should look like this: ==Kannada==
  2. Part of speech header - After the language header, add a space and then add the part of speech header, which tells what part of speech the entry is describing. The header should look like this: ===<insert part of speech here>===
  3. The inflection line - The inflection line is the line directly underneath the part of speech header. In the inflection line, depending upon which part of speech the entry is using should be a template that looks like this: {{infl|kn|adj|tr=<''insert transliteration here'''>|sc=Knda}} or {{kn-noun|tr=''<insert transliteration here>''|sc=Knda}}.
  4. Definition or translation - Two lines below the inflection line is where the definition or English translation of the Kannada word you are writing an entry for goes. Most entries will follow the translation scheme of entries, however, not all of them will. This is where you write what the Kannada word means in English.

Kannada translations of English words[edit]

Kannada words will appear in the Translations sections of English words. In general, only the lemma form of the Kannada translation should be given.

The template {{t}} should be used, it speeds up entry and will enable any later, global changes in format to be made.
