Number of languages

  • 2014 August 20: Wiktionary has at least one entry in each of 1506 languages. The languages with the most entries are Latin (658 670), English (554 349) and Italian (514 237); the languages with the most definitions are Latin (1 092 069), English (723 588) and Italian (646 528), but this includes inflected forms' "definitions"; the languages with the most "gloss" definitions are English (486 026), Italian (135 173) and Japanese (81 594).
  • 2014 February 06: Latvian joins the 100k club: Wiktionary now has 100 000+ entries in ten languages: Latin, English, Italian, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Finnish, Esperanto and Latvian. 1214 lects have at least one entry.
  • 2013 December 08: Wiktionary has granted codes to 7720 lects; 139 are Wiktionary-specific exceptional codes, the rest are ISO codes. 1150 lects have at least one entry.
  • 2013 September 01: Wiktionary has 100 000+ entries in nine languages, as Portuguese makes a rapid rise into the middle of the 100k pack. Latin has the most entries (628 931), followed by English (510 941), Italian (496 796), French (281 228), Spanish, Portuguese, German, Finnish and Esperanto. Wiktionary has 10+ entries in 559 languages (and 1000+ entries in 104 languages), including the aforementioned nine. It has at least one entry in each of 1117 languages.
  • 2013 February 25: Wiktionary has 100 000+ entries in eight languages, as German joins the list: Latin, English, Italian, French, Spanish, Finnish, Esperanto and German.
  • 2012 November 27: Wiktionary has 10+ entries in 500+ languages

It has about 22 000 German nouns and 3 600 German verbs, and about 12 000 Dutch nouns and 3 600 Dutch verbs. 102 users have administrator privileges (not all are active).
  • 2013 September 20: Wiktionary has about 206 000 English nouns, about 81 000 English adjectives and about 28 000 English verbs (including alternative forms).
  • 2010 May 08: Wiktionary has 3000 Dutch verbs.
  • 2007 December 04: The basic English word list of 18 000 words has been completed.
