Wiktionary:Requested entries (American Sign Language)

Definition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary
Jump to: navigation, search

Have an entry request? Add it to the list. - But please:

  • Think twice before adding long lists of words as they may be ignored.
  • If possible provide context, usage, field of relevance, etc.

Please remove entries from this list once they have been written (i.e. the link is “live”, shown in blue, and has a section for the correct language)

There are a few things you can do to help:

  • Don’t delete words just because you don’t know them — it may be that they are used only in certain contexts or are archaic or obsolete.
  • Don’t simply replace words with what you believe is the correct form. The form here may be rare or regional. Instead add the standard form and comment that the requested form seems to be an error in your experience.

Requested-entry pages for other languages: Category:Requested entries by language. See also: Category:American Sign Language terms needing attention.

To request an entry for an ASL sign, add a gloss for the sign in the section below for the shape of the dominant hand at the beginning of the sign. If you know the Wiktionary name for the entry (see Appendix:Sign language entry names for details), give the entry name along with the gloss, e.g.:

==G==
{{top2}}
* WORD -- [[G@Finger-FingerAcross-1@Center-FingerUp]]
{{mid2}}
{{bottom}}

If you know how to produce the sign but don't know the right Wiktionary name for the entry, just describe how to produce the sign to the best of your knowledge, e.g.:

* WORD -- dominant G touches nondominant hand (not sure which shape the nondominant hand makes or which directions the hands face)

If you don't even know the first dominant handshape, request an ASL translation of an English word by adding {{trreq|American Sign Language}} to the ====Translations==== section in the English entry or add a request at Wiktionary:Translation requests.
