prosum[edit]

The inflection template used in this entry ({{la-conj-irr-sum}}) can't handle alternation in form by the prefix: it's prod- before vowels and pro- before consonants, but the template shows it as pro- throughout. SemperBlotto tagged it with {{attention|la}} two years ago, but nobody's done anything- probably because this needs knowledge in both Latin and template coding, or the manual creation of a non-template version by someone who knows the Latin, and it's a lot of trouble for one entry.

On the other hand, we shouldn't be knowing purveyors of misinformation. If we can't fix this soon, we should delete the inflection section. Chuck Entz (talk) 05:00, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. Perfect job for me: "knowledge in both Latin and template coding". Actually, it's one half Microsoft Word, one half brute force. It's not worth templatising intervocalic irregularity, so I just hardcoded the table. SB manually created most of the inflected forms; I'll catch the rest. We have lots of entries for vernacular names that attempt to disambiguate by specifying all the taxonomic names that are applicable. I note also the lame Etymology. I have no idea whether it is worth the trouble of doing it right, but it seems worth deleting for "no usable content given". DCDuring TALK 19:43, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Is it anything besides Laburnum?
Yes. All the current species of Cytisus, and a few others. French has a tendency to blur the distinction between scientific and common names, so changes in taxonomy can make things really messy. See w:fr:Cytise Chuck Entz (talk) 19:59, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As for the etymology, I added the Greek source of the name. It turns out that the Greek word was somewhat ambiguous, to start with (see Liddell & Scott at Perseus). To get the botanical identity right would require some research. Chuck Entz (talk) 20:05, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Updating the nomenclature in the L & S entry, Medicago arborea is still the correct name, but Laburnum vulgare is apparently a synonym of Laburnum anagyroides. Chuck Entz (talk) 20:29, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I now have Tranlingual entries for both names.
It looks like many plants with the kind of yellow flowers that laburnum has were called cytise#French. I'm not sure that we can really specify it much better than the current definition or with one specific "laburnum" sense and one "resembling" sense. Robert doesn't seem to do better. Perhaps some derived terms would help clarify. I also wonder from which genera and species one can obtain cytisine. DCDuring TALK 20:32, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Currently adding lots of deities categories, most of them wrong (missing out the en: for English, not using topic cat therefore bypassing the automatic formatting that makes these categories findable) or of questionable relevance; Category:en:Fire deities, Category:en:Death deities, Category:en:Temporal deities.   • It probably is known to everyone but to give some background, this is my long-time nemesis who started out by adding really, really bad Japanese entries. He/she, let's use the personal pronoun "they," branched out into awful Mandarin entries and now seems to be focusing on English. Their English is not perfect either. Dealing with this user has brought me past my wits' end and I'm too fed up to deal with this person anymore, and I don't ordinarily edit English entries either so I'm not completely confident about the editing conventions. (I did roll back one of their edits here, which they promptly pasted back.) Blocking this person does not work because they reemerge with a new IP in seconds. Communicating does not work 95% of the time. If you want any pages to be cleaned up, you must do it yourself. If you want to block, you must protect pages.
