As far as I know, interwiki.py has never been really properly adapted to the Wiktionary family for at least the following reasons:

  1. The cs.wikt specificities.
  2. The different apostrophes according to the site language (for example aujourd'hui is pointing to a redirection fr:aujourd'hui, the script may remove them, and sometimes there isn't any one).
  3. Only two bots arrived to do that for a few years: User:Interwicket/code, and Luckas-bot at the third vote.

  1. Oppose Dan Polansky 08:00, 15 April 2011 (UTC) In the discussion linked above[1], the bot owner says this: "It [the bot] uses standard script interwiki.py and uses Pywikipediabot framework." From what some experienced admins said, running this standard script without modification for Wiktionary has some adverse effects.     Comment — You both opposed here. With due respect (some lines for frwikit discussion):
    I think you are not quite right. You said Luckas's bot is okay, but see here his user-config.py, which has fr and cs wikt in it, and he uses the same interwiki.py from Pywikipedia. Also previously flagged ArthurBot, it runs in interwiki.py too. No customization in script. As these are okay, as my present test edits are okay, I see no problem.

    Let's try python interwiki.py -lang:en -family:wiktionary -file:articles_list.txt -confirm, with aujourd'hui inside.
    If someone find a solution for the apostrophes, it will stay at least a pl.wikt order problem. JackPotte 10:50, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    if we run the command without -wiktionary parameter, it will modify the inter-wiki to the redirected page, and place the inter-wiki to the existing page. But if we run with -wiktionary (and I run it with that parameter), it will simply ignore that page with a message, "Ignoring fr:aujourd’hui for aujourd'hui in wiktionary mode."     Apart from the pl.wikt order:
    1. How are you able to manage an article like pomme d'amour (the English returns towards a French one, which only returns toward a Portuguese one)?
    2. What happens when there isn't any redirection between the different articles to link (eg: L'Aquila <=> fr:L’Aquila)? JackPotte 09:41, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    Answer to both of your questions: I answered that already, it is same like above. The bot doesn't make an edit, and it will not if you run the bot with -wiktionary enable. Interwiki.py is not evil. The command I ran is, python interwiki.py -lang:en -family:wiktionary -wiktionary -page:"pomme d'amour". Wikitanvir 16:54, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    But my bot, as far as you see is right, right? So, after asking all this questions, why you think, it's not trustworthy to run this bot on this wiki? For just using inter-wiki.py, where few other bots run in same script? Wikitanvir 03:00, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
