Number vs. numeral 2[edit]

  • Voting on: Deciding what part-of-speech (L3) header numbers (like three, third, etc.) should use. The categorization is not affected by this vote. The following options are available:
  1. Cardinal number, ordinal number: Numbers should use the L3 headers ===Cardinal number=== and ===Ordinal number===.
  2. Cardinal numeral, ordinal numeral: Numbers should use the L3 headers ===Cardinal numeral=== and ===Ordinal numeral===
  3. Number: Numbers should use the L3 header ===Number===. Whether or not the templates {{cardinal}} and {{ordinal}} should be used is not part of this vote.
  4. Number, adjective: Cardinal numbers should use the L3 header ===Number===; ordinal numbers should use the L3 header ===Adjective===.
  5. Numeral: Numbers should use the L3 header ===Numeral===. As above, context template usage is not regulated by this vote.
  6. No POS header: Numbers should not have their own part-of-speech header, but instead be categorized under existing part-of-speech headers (such as ===Adjective===).
  7. Mixed PoS headings: Number-related words should have a mixture of part-of-speech headings, possibly language-specific. So "hundred" could (but does not need to) be classed as a noun, while "three" as a cardinal number, and "third" as an adjective, depending on the consensus or agreement found for the particular language. Furthermore, "double" and "triple" can be classed as adjectives, and "twice" and "thrice" as adverbs. This option does not specify any particular rule for the assignment of PoS headings; it merely recognizes that there is no simple cross-language scheme for PoS headings of number-related words.
