Sexually explicit words... meh. —Internoob 00:04, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Not sexually explicit just as fellatio, irrumatio, cunnilingus, sodomy, masturbation, or coitus are not, fist fucking, blowjob, throat fucking, cunt eating, ass fuckin, jacking off, and fucking are. Having these terms presents the knowledge to laymen on how to professionally describe terms that are difficult to communicate without offense but these terms are clinical and sexological in nature and have a place on wotd.Lucifer (talk) 02:54, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
People will still get offended and rage at us (me), guaranteed. Especially with the photos. —Internoob 19:37, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I see what you did there! Exodus (talk) 10:37, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Why would they click on the sexological term for fisting if they find it so offensive? In any case we could collapse the pictures or remove them temporarily.Lucifer (talk) 22:15, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Well the German Wikipedia once featured an article about the vulva (with pictures!) so it's not unprecedented, but that was enormously controversial and I don't really want to go there. Word of the Day is meant to showcase the entire entry as well as just the word's meaning so the pictures on the entry do have to be unobjectionable.... —Internoob 00:12, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
How bout we just do brachiovaginal then? The image is more professional than the amateur anal fisting shot. Controversy is subjective and it could attract more readers and contributors. I don't find vulvas objectionable, in fact most people on the planet have one and at one point or another have inserted their own or others peoples fingers or even hands or fists inside their vagina. I do find Christianity terribly objectionable, I dislike muslims and ghetto black people, and so large majorities of people around the world, but that doesn't mean we would avoid a koranic term or one from African American Vernacular English, but we can go ahead and collapse the image, anyone that wants to see a picture can choose to.Lucifer (talk) 07:36, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm reasonably certain that the different senses are homographs with different etymologies, and I think our practice until a year ago was to only set senses from one etymology section as WOTD, but FWIW I would gladly see that practice deviated from, and I'm reasonably certain I deviated from it myself in setting some words. In fact, I'm going to ignore it when I set both senses of atopical as a December WOTD in just a moment, lol. - -sche (discuss) 03:29, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
FWIW, both etymlogies of agape have separately been WOTD. —Internoob 21:39, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

That is really an arbitrary rationale, the word fag is not obscene and therefore should not be overlooked. Lucifer (talk) 06:54, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm going to say that anything listed as derogatory or pejorative falls under "no offensive words".
