Zapatista (plural Zapatistas)

  1. A member of the Liberation Army of the South, a group formed and led by Emiliano Zapata that took part in the Mexican Revolution.
  2. A member of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, an indigenous leftist group that formed in the jungles of Chiapas in 1983 and coordinated an uprising on January 1st, 1994, the day NAFTA took effect.
