  1. The beginning of a week, usually understood to include Monday and Tuesday.
    Alkuviikko oli kiireinen, mutta nyt asiakkaita on todella vähän.
    The beginning of the week was busy, but now there are really few customers.
  2. Some cases are used adverbially to produce expressions similar to English "early week", see alkuviikolla, alkuviikosta
  3. Any of the first weeks of a longer period of time.
