Romanian[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Latin lūbricāre, present active infinitive of lūbricō (make slippery). The original form was the now-obsolete lureca as intervocalic -r- and -n- are occasionally mixed in Romanian phonological evolution (cf. senin from serēnus and mărunt from minūtus). The -b- in the Latin consonant cluster -br- usually disappears in transitioning to Romanian (cf. faur < fabrum, fior < febris, and fereca < fabricāre).
