    • 1534, François Rabelais, Gargantua:
      Tant noblement estoient apprins qu'il n'estoit entre eulx celluy ne celle qui ne sceust lire, escripre, chanter, iouer d'instrumens harmonieux, parler de cinq et six langaiges
      They were so well taught that among them there was not one who did not know how to read, write, sing, play musical instruments [and] speak five or six languages.
