From Ancient Greek ᾰ̓ρῠταινοειδής (arutainoeidḗs) + -eus (adjectival suffix), from ᾰ̓ρῠ́ταινᾰ (arútaina, “a ladle or cup”) + -ο- (-o-) + -ειδής (-eidḗs, “-like, -oid”). Doublet of arytaenoīdēs.
