attributive adjective (plural attributive adjectives)

  1. (grammar) An adjective that modifies the head of a noun phrase in which it occurs.
    The word “red” in “the red balloon” is an attributive adjective.

Usage notes[edit]

As opposed to predicative adjectives, attributive adjectives are part of the noun phrase that they modify.
