Etymology[edit]

Based on an unattested adjective derived from Proto-Slavic *bogatъ (rich) or going back to the otherwise unregistered Proto-Slavic *bogatьje (richness).[1] According to Topalli, the final -i is a native suffix.[2] Compare related adjective i/e begatë.
