From Vulgar Latin *blastimāre, *blastēmāre, present active infinitive of *blastēmō, from Latin blasphemo, from Ancient Greek βλασφημέω (blasphēméō). Compare Italian biasimare, bestemmiare, Romanian blestema, Catalan blasmar, French blâmer, Portuguese and Spanish lastimar.
