Uncertain. Possibly from Gothic *𐌱𐍂𐌰𐌿𐌸 (*brauþ, bread), from Proto-Germanic *braudą (cooked food, leavened bread). Alternatively, perhaps from a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia.
