From Proto-Albanian *buātā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰeuh₂-. Cognate to Sanskrit भू (bhū́-, earth, world) and भूमि (bhū́mi-, earth, ground, soil), Old Dutch botn (bottom), Old English bytme, bytne (bilge, floor, bottom), Old Norse bytna (to come to the bottom).
