Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Mon-Khmer *bək ~ *buk ~ *buək (to bind (round)). Cognate with Muong puộc, Mon ဗိုက် (pàk, to put round), Semai bek (to bind), Central Nicobarese [Nancowry] pôk-hata/pôko (to bind, tie).
