From Proto-Albanian *būtsā, or Proto-Albanian *būðā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰudʰ-mn 'bottom'. Cognate to Sanskrit बुध्न (budhna), Ancient Greek πυθμήν (puthmḗn, bottom), and Old English botm (English bottom).
