From Latin catachrēsis, from Ancient Greek κατάχρησις (katákhrēsis, misuse (of a word)), from καταχρῆσθαι (katakhrêsthai, to misuse), from κατά (katá, pervertedly) + χρῆσθαι (khrêsthai, to use).[1]
