Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unknown. Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *cōnflexīre, from Latin flexus. Alternatively, an expressive formation from an earlier coflești < cofleșci, formed from fleșcăi with an expressive prefix co- (as in cocârja, copleși, cotropi, etc.) The least likely etymology proposed is a Vulgar Latin confracescere, which is impossible from a phonetic point of view.[1]

Verb[edit]

a cofleși (third-person singular present cofleșește, past participle cofleșit) 4th conj.

  1. (popular) (of fruits) to soften, go bad
    Synonyms: muia, strica
