coltan (plural coltans)

1. (mineralogy) A metallic ore, (Fe,Mn)(Ta,Nb)₂O₆, from which the elements niobium and tantalum are extracted.

   Synonym: columbite-tantalite

   Coltan is used for the production of tantalum capacitors.
