Proto-Germanic *kussijanan, from Proto-Indo-European *kus-. Cognate with Old Saxon kussian (Dutch kussen), Old High German kussen (German küssen), Old Norse kyssa (Swedish kyssa, Icelandic kyssa), Gothic 𐌺𐌿𐌺𐌾𐌰𐌽; and with Cornish cussin (perhaps also Ancient Greek κυνεῖν).
