Verb[edit]

déménager

  1. (transitive) to move (an object from a place to another)
  2. (intransitive) to move house, to leave a house
Notre décision de déménager au Canada est due à plusieurs raisons.
We decided to move to Canada for a number of reasons.
  3. (intransitive, slang) to kick ass, to kick butt, to rock, to rule (to be awesome)
Synonyms: déchirer, envoyer du pâté, casser la baraque

Conjugation[edit]

This is a regular -er verb, but the stem is written déménage- before endings that begin with -a- or -o- (to indicate that the -g- is a "soft" /ʒ/ and not a "hard" /ɡ/). This spelling-change occurs in all verbs in -ger, such as neiger and manger.
