Old Prussian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *deru-, *dreu- (firm, solid, steadfast); compare trú.

Noun[edit]

drūwis

  1. belief, faith, religion

Usage notes[edit]

The word is customarily begun with a majuscule letter (see Drūwis) in the formal names of religions, out of respect, although this rule is by no means binding : Jūdiskas Drūwis - "the Jewish Faith"; Krikstāniskas Drūwis - "the Christian Faith".
